Hi, I’m Jason Zucco, a commercial photographer based in Framingham, Massachusetts. My clients span from car manufacturers to heavy metal musicians, and everything in between.
While my work is incredibly fulfilling, I’ve always felt there was something missing. That’s when I discovered wildlife photography.
Traveling with my wife, Eliza, has always been an essential part of our lives. Over the years, we’ve found ourselves drawn to nature, and soon, observing animals became our shared passion. For me, wildlife photography became more than just a hobby—it became an obsession. Not only is it challenging, but it also requires an immense amount of patience, which is a practice I’ve come to appreciate deeply. It’s a journey of quiet observation, waiting for the perfect moment to capture life as it happens.
Wildlife photography also became a form of therapy. It calms my mind and has helped me improve my mental health in ways I never expected.
About 10 years ago, a group of Great Blue Herons started nesting in my wife’s parents’ backyard. I knew immediately I had to photograph them. What struck me was the rarity of the setting—Herons typically nest in remote, hard-to-reach areas. But here, they were in my back yard!
From my very first image, I knew I had something unique. What began as a attempt to capture some bird photos turned into years of observing their behavior and capturing them in their most graceful state.
This collection is a reflection of that journey: the process, the challenges, and the quiet moments of connection I’ve had with these birds. It’s not a painting, and it’s not photoshopped. It’s life as I saw it, captured through the lens of my Canon camera.
Thank you for your interest and support in this work. All but a few of these images in the gallery have been captured in Shelburne, MA. Sadly this location has since been abandoned by the Herons due to pressure from local Bald Eagles. My newest work is currently under way in Sudbury, MA.
Blue Herons are almost everywhere! Next time you pass by an open wetland, look for the dead trees. You might just see their nests...
